Pre-Operative (Before) general anesthesia or iv sedation surgery:
**All patients are different. You may be given different instructions than what appears on this website. Please consult our office for your individual instructions**
****You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) after midnight the night before your surgery appointment!!!!****
- No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home. ** If the patient is a minor under the age of 18, they MUST have a legal parent present, even if another driver is also present.**
- The patient should not drive a vehicle, operate any machinery or sign any legal documents for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with short sleeves, comfortable pants such as sweatpants, and low-heeled tennis shoes. No flip-flops or sandals!
- Contact lenses, all jewelry, all piercings, including earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, face or tongue piercings (no exceptions!) and dentures must be removed at the time of surgery.
- Do not wear ANY makeup, or nail polish (hands) on the day of surgery.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify as soon as you have symptoms.
- If you take routine oral medications, please check with Dr. Krause prior to your surgical date for instructions.
- If the patient is under 18 years of age, the legal parent MUST be accompany the patient, even if another driver is also present. ***Step-parents, grandparents, brother/sister, etc, (unless they are the legal guardians with proper documentation) can not ‘stand-in’ for parents, even with permission. A parent must accompany the child to their appointment.***
